MIPS
The Bell MIPS System is an advanced helmet safety technology developed by Bell Helmets in collaboration with MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System). It is designed to enhance protection against rotational forces that can occur during certain impacts, especially angled ones.
Traditional helmets are mainly built to protect against linear impacts. The MIPS system adds a low-friction layer inside the helmet that allows the head to move slightly (typically 10–15 mm) relative to the helmet during a crash. This mimics the brain’s own protective structure and helps reduce the rotational motion transmitted to the brain.
By integrating MIPS into their helmets, Bell provides riders—whether on motorcycles, bicycles, or dirt bikes—with an added layer of safety that goes beyond standard impact protection, helping to reduce the risk of brain injuries in real-world crash scenarios.
